DXB prepares for record passenger flow during August travel surge
DUBAI – Dubai International Airport (DXB) is gearing up for one of its busiest travel periods as the summer holidays draw to a close.
Families returning from vacations and students flying back ahead of the new academic year are expected to drive passenger numbers sharply upwards.
Between 13 and 25 August 2025, DXB anticipates handling more than 3.6 million guests, with daily averages of 280,000.
The busiest day is forecast for Friday 15 August, when traffic is projected to exceed 290,000. This surge follows a record-breaking first half of the year in which Dubai welcomed 9.88 million international overnight visitors, marking a 6% year-on-year rise, and DXB processed over 46 million guests.
What to expect
Dubai Airports, in collaboration with the oneDXB community of airlines, control authorities, and commercial partners, is introducing measures to ensure smooth passenger flow. Enhanced support for People of Determination includes accessibility routes, discreet assistance for Sunflower Lanyard wearers, and a dedicated Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2.
To ease congestion, DXB is advising travellers to plan their journeys carefully. The Dubai Metro, with stations directly linked to Terminals 1 and 3, offers a reliable way to reach the airport. Additional options include RTA taxis, Careem, Uber, and car rentals.
How to travel smoothly
Passengers are urged to use Smart Gates at passport control where eligible, with children over 12 also permitted. The DXB Express Maps online tool provides real-time flight and terminal updates and can be accessed by scanning QR codes on airport screens.
Airline-specific recommendations are also in place. Emirates customers are encouraged to use early and self-check-in facilities, including city check-in options, while flydubai passengers are advised to arrive at least four hours before departure. Those travelling with other airlines should not arrive earlier than three hours before their flight. Online check-in and familiarising with baggage allowances are strongly recommended to avoid last-minute delays.
When to prepare
To save time at security, travellers should prepare by placing metal items such as watches, jewellery, coins, and belts in their hand luggage and following liquid restrictions. Families with children are reminded that those aged over 12 can use Smart Gates for quicker clearance.
DXB also encourages guests to make the most of their airport experience by exploring lounges, dining outlets, duty-free shopping, and leisure amenities while awaiting departure. With more than 92 million travellers recorded in 2024, DXB remains the world’s busiest international airport, now preparing for another landmark travel season.
